AI’s funding is full steam ahead into summer.

Baseten collected one of the year’s largest infrastructure rounds, Groq reloaded after its unusual Nvidia deal, and investors continued stacking capital behind the machinery required to run AI in production: inference, networking, cloud compute, agent security, testing, and enterprise data.

Robotics was quieter, but autonomous defense systems made plenty of noise.

Summer's here. Larry handles calls, jobs, and memberships automatically.

Air Design used to spend hours every day manually calling their 600 members to schedule seasonal tune-ups.

They turned on Podium's AI Membership Coordinator. It contacted 471 members, booked 187 jobs, and generated $24,000 in revenue.

Across home services, the story repeats.

Magnolia Plumbing cut invoice-to-payment time to 6 minutes and saved 60 hours of admin work every month.

This is what Podium's AI Operating System does: phones answered, jobs booked, invoices collected — automatically, without adding headcount.

🔥 Biggest AI Funding Rounds This Week

Baseten – $1.5B (Series F) – San Francisco, CA — The AI inference platform raised one of the week’s largest rounds to expand the infrastructure used to deploy, optimize, and operate production AI models.

Groq – $650M (Funding Round) – Mountain View, CA — The AI-chip company raised fresh capital to rebuild and expand after Nvidia’s unusual $20 billion technology-licensing and talent agreement with the company.

Stark – €500M (Venture Round) – Berlin, Germany — The autonomous-defense startup raised to accelerate research, development, and manufacturing of AI-enabled drones and battlefield systems.

Nearfield Instruments – $380M (Series D) – Rotterdam, Netherlands — The semiconductor-equipment company raised to expand its advanced chip-inspection and metrology systems as AI drives demand for increasingly complex processors.

General Intuition – $320M (Funding Round) – United States — The emerging AI company reportedly secured backing from Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, and Jeff Bezos, although detailed product and stage information remained limited at publication.

Peregrine Technologies – $250M (Series D) – San Francisco, CA — The public-safety intelligence platform raised at a $6.8 billion valuation to expand its permission-aware data and AI software across government agencies and other high-stakes organizations.

Upscale AI – $190M (Series A Extension) – Santa Clara, CA — The AI-networking startup raised at a $2 billion valuation to develop systems connecting accelerators, memory, storage, and other components inside large compute clusters

🦄 Startups to Watch:

Runlayer — Every enterprise agent eventually needs permissions, approved tools, restricted data access, and an audit trail. Runlayer is positioning itself as the control plane for that emerging software population.

Coval — Voice agents can fail in thousands of strange, expensive ways. Coval’s simulation and testing layer could become essential as companies move from small pilots to millions of automated conversations.

Sail Research — Long-running agents need environments that preserve state, recover from crashes, and continue working across sessions. That infrastructure remains a major unsolved problem.

Seltz — Search is shifting from pages designed for humans toward retrieval systems designed for machines. Seltz is building for the crawler on the other side of the screen.

Hang Ten Systems — Vishal Sikka’s involvement gives the company deep enterprise credibility, while its focus on reusable AI skills could help organizations move beyond isolated copilots.

📡 Signals – What This Week Tells Us:

  • Inference is eating the funding stack. Baseten, Groq, Runpod, Upscale AI, TensorX, and Nearfield Instruments accounted for roughly $2.8 billion in disclosed funding. Capital is flowing into nearly every layer between a trained model and a functioning AI product: chips, networking, cloud capacity, deployment, inference optimization, and semiconductor manufacturing.

  • Healthcare agents are becoming a major funding category. Assort Health, Cadence, Trase, Prosper AI, and xCures raised more than $400 million combined. Most are targeting the bureaucratic thicket surrounding care: patient calls, scheduling, intake, billing, records, monitoring, and insurance verification.

  • Agent infrastructure is moving beyond demos. Sail Research, Runlayer, Coval, Patronus AI, and Seltz are building the sandboxes, permissions, testing environments, retrieval systems, and runtime infrastructure required for agents to operate safely over longer periods.

  • Autonomous defense is producing European mega-rounds. Stark’s €500 million financing shows how quickly defense technology has moved from a difficult venture category into a major capital destination. Unlike pure software rounds, this capital must fund both intelligence and industrial capacity: models, aircraft, sensors, factories, supply chains, and deployment.

🤝 Mergers & Acquisitions

  • TrueFoundry → Seldon AI -TrueFoundry acquired the MLOps company to combine model deployment, monitoring, governance, and agentic AI infrastructure into a broader enterprise platform.

  • Agility Robotics → SPAC Merger – $2.5B Implied Valuation - The humanoid-robotics company announced plans to go public through a SPAC transaction expected to provide more than $600 million in gross proceeds. Because this is a proposed public-market combination rather than a traditional venture round, it is not included in the weekly funding total.
